One of the primary objectives of the I.H.R.N is to support  hospital broadcasters. We realise the importance of training and this we plan to facilitate required training at all member stations. To date we have held five major training events. The First was a  train the trainer weekend course in Killkenny and the second presenter training in South Tipperary General Hospital Radio entitiled "what does hospital Radio mean to you". You can find out more about these two events in the events menu..

In 2009 we organised three focused training workshop at member stations CUH FM and South Tippereary General Hospital Radio and St. ita's In Dublin.  These workshops were for presenters and the aim was to refresh skills in the basics of radio presentation and move to the next level with an introduction on how to ‘Unconsciously Know’ what great presentation involves. These workshops were a huge success, the network recieved very positive feedback from the volunteers that attended and the instructors.

The Mater Hospital Dublin held their workshop on the 15th of May 2010. Again it was a very interesting day and the feedback  was very positive from those present.  Limerick are  currently planning their workshop and that will end this phase of training.

The network plans to move on to the next phase of training which will consist of training in broadcast law and production techniques.

CUH FM hospital radio is celebrating its 21st birthday this year. Since 1989, the station has been broadcasting to patients, staff and all those who visit Cork University Hospital (CUH) and since 2007 Cork University Maternity Hospital.
Since its first live broadcast, in January 1989, CUH FM has grown in strength during the intervening years to the success story that it has become today. Over 40 volunteer broadcasters, presenters, assistants, and technical support provide a wide variety of programmes which go on air daily from 12pm to midnight each day and pre-recorded material broadcast from midnight until noon.
One of the original founding members Noel Welch is still an active contributor to the station and he and his colleague Derry Walsh have given 20 years service each with other volunteers having 15 to 18 years service to date. Their commitment, dedication, and loyalty to "The Patients' Station" is and has always been immeasurable.
To mark the station's 21st birthday, a number of special events will take place throughout 2010. These events will be advertised locally and everyone will be invited to join in the celebrations.
Tom Browne, station co-ordinator said "all of us working at the station would like to thank all those who have helped us in any way in the past and continue to due so in the present, particularly the patients, management and staff of CUH and CUMH along with the National Hospital's Office, the Irish Hospital Radio Network, the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland, the Communication Regulator and our legion of loyal listeners all who have contributed greatly, sometimes unaware towards our "Patients' Station".
CUH FM currently holds a five year broadcasting licence awarded by the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland. The frequency of 102 FM is designated by the Communication Regulator of Ireland.
