Hello From Laura S

Postby Laura S » Fri Dec 05, 2008 7:35 pm

Hi!
Hi!

My name is Laura Sweeney and I am a volunteer presenter with STGH Radio. I've been there about three months so I'm still the new girl I present a two hour show on Saturday mornings.

I was at the networking day and I thought that it was a great success and a credit to everyone involved. Love the website, very well designed and professional. Brilliant idea!

Hello Laura

Thanks for registering on the site and thank you for your kind comments, I'm glad you enjoyed the networking day, I will make sure that they are passed on to the committee. The feedback to date has been very positive.

The next event will be the training, I'm really looking forward to that myself. It should take place at alll stations between now and march 09

Hi Laura. Sorry I didn't get to Clonmel to meet everyone. Hopefully through this interweb thing we can keep in touch and exchange ideas. Radio is an exciting and fulfilling career/past-time to embark on. I wish you the very best of luck with it.

Look forward to meeting in the near future. Happy Christmas.

Hi All!

Thanks so much for all your tips and offers of help :D I'm always looking to learn and improve so they are very welcome! I will definitely put them into practice.

I have just about got the controls under, well, control  It did take a few weeks of mistakes and being on air when I didn't intend to be but thank God not too many such errors of late. I recently learned how to listen to tracks from the c.d. player in the studio while music from the computer is still going out on air. First time I had a go at that people were treated to Daniel O'Donnel singing over another track! Not good

I'm trying to improve my links between songs, trying to say more than what's just been on and what's coming up. Not repeating myself is my biggest challenge as I tend to repeat phrases but I'm getting there. I've started taping my shows and listening back to them to pick up on mistakes. It's easier than any other way because you're listening objectively and I tend to hear the mistakes better afterwards, at the time they just don't register. Unless they're big and obvious

The training that's coming up is going to be a big asset. I'm really looking forward to it. That was very interesting about Rick O'Shea, I didn't know that he started with hospital radio too, I guess you just don't know where life will bring you. Wish I could be that successful at this but there is something special about hospital radio that makes it different to the commercial side of things.

Thanks again everyone :)

Hi,

Are these nonsense posts annoying anyone else? They are spoiling the forum. :x

Every time I come here I think that there are some new interesting posts and it's all this rubbish, what's going on with it?
